Constantin Leue: UAV-Pilot in den Alpen

I started working with drones in 2009 when I joined a research team at the Fraunhofer IOSB in Karlsruhe. I was helping to build up a simulation environment for testing swarm intelligence for drones. Beside my engineering tasks I was the safety pilot for all the test flights. During my 6 years there I flew plenty of different missions and drones. As a development engineer I had to deal with hardware, sensors, electronics and software of drones.

In the beginning of 2012 I started to work as a freelancer drone pilot for service companies like augeohr that do aerial footage for television. I gained lots of experience by working with a professional film team for famous documentary formats like “Länder Menschen Abenteuer”, “Schätze der Welt” and “TerraX”. The main focus was set on documentaries but I also did some commercials and image films for well known brands like “Bayer”, “Porsche” and “Kia”.

In 2016 I was approached by Hays and finally recruited to work for the very promising drone start-up AscTec in Munich that was recently bought by Intel. I joined the team to build the brand new Intel Shootingstar Drone which is especially designed for light shows. In the end of the project I was part of the successful world record attempt of 500 drones flying simultaneously. Today I join the Shootingstar team from now and then to give technical support at the drone light shows all over the world.

During my career as a drone pilot I flew a lot of different drones. This is a list of the most relevant ones:
